- The length of a lease is 1 to 2 years.
- The security deposit is 1 to 2 month’s rent.
- Realtor commission is paid by the landlord and is usually 1-month’s rent.
- Lease are negotiated in USDAdvance rent of 1 month’s rent is required.
- The lease is written in English and is prepared by the realtor.
- The diplomatic clause is accepted and helps if a multinational company is the guarantor.
- Opening a bank account may require several pieces of information. Using the bank the transferring corporation manages their corporate banking with, may facilitate this process.
- Public schools are not recommended in Jamaica and most assignees chose private schools, however there are limitations in the availability in the private schools. The most common school for expatriate children are American International School of Kingston and Hillel Academy.
- Normally utilities are paid separately from the rent. To connect utilities proof of address and local ID is needed
- International Driver’s Licenses are valid.
- The areas where affordable, desirable rentals are most likely to be located within Kingston are Norbrook, Cherry Gardens, and Jack ́s Hill.
