The Bahamas consists of more than 700 islands, cays, and islets in the Atlantic Ocean southeast of the U.S. state of Florida. Its capital is Nassau on the island of New Providence. The designation of “Bahamas” can refer to either the country or the larger island chain that it shares with the Turks and Caicos Islands. The islands boast a total population of approximately 320,000 people and the majority of these reside in the capital. In terms of gross domestic product per capita, the Bahamas is one of the richest countries in the Americas (following the United States and Canada).

Official Currency: (BSD) Bahamian Dollar which is par with USD.
- The local documentation needed is National Insurance Number (NIB).
- Bahamian driver’s licenses are issued only to Bahamians or persons who have Bahamian status, residency, or permission to work in The Bahama.
- The Bahamas follows the British system of driving on the left- hand side of the road.
- The requirements to open a account are, passport with work permit, letter of introduction from the employer confirming employment and proof of address, current Country License (as a second form of identification), funds to open account – minimum $100 USD.
- Public schools are not recommended in The Bahamas and most assignees chose private schools, however there are limitations in the availability.
- The length of a lease is usually 12 months.
- The security deposit is usually 1 month’s rent.
- A guarantor is not required but is helpful when securing a property.
- Initial payment to move in is 3 month’s rent; first, last and security deposit.
- Rent is paid monthly and can be paid in USD or Bahamian dollars.
- The diplomatic clause is accepted with 60 days’ notice.
- The rental commission is usually 1 month’s rent + VAT and is paid by the landlord.
- In order to connect utilities a copy of the work permit and picture page of the passport are required.
- The areas where affordable, desirable rentals are located within The Bahamas are Lyford Cay, Old Fort Bay, Ocean Club Estates, Caves Point, Caves Heights, Sandyport, Port New Providence, Palm Cay, Columbus Cove, Westwinds, Venetian West, Turnberry, Charlotte’s Ville.
